there are a variety to set customer pricing and sales dock architect for example you can enter a discount against a pricing category which will then apply that discount to all line items associated with that pricing category you can also enter a lump sum system discount but what if you're seeking a specific sell price or margin for your quote you can use sales dock architects goal seek function to help you with that for example you can use goal seek to set the system discount so that the overall margin is 40 percent you can also use goal seek to determine the discount for a particular pricing category so that the margin for that pricing category is 45 percent you can even perform a goal seek on several pricing categories at the same time by pressing your ctrl key while using your mouse to select the input cells for multiple pricing categories in addition to using goal seek to set discounts of the category or system discount level which is a top-down approach you can also use a bottom-up approach that determines cell pricing to achieve a desired target for each line item whereas the top-down approach determines a single discount to apply to all items associated with a pricing category so that the overall target is achieved the bottom-up approach seeks to achieve the target for each and every line item for example you can use goal seek by line item to set the margin to 40% for all items that are associated with an equipment pricing category as defined by the type column on the pricing tab as you can see a discount is not calculated on the pricing tab but each of the items has been discounted to meet the 40% margin target you can also select multiple item rows with your ctrl key and mouse and set the margin to your desired target for the selected items when using a line-item goal seek approach unit cell pricing for each line item will be set to a hard-coded number that achieves the target as a result those items will no longer be impacted by any discounts set on the pricing tab to reset the unit cell pricing so that discounts entered on the pricing tab once again are used to calculate unit cell pricing select the reset line-item pricing to default option under the goal seek menu for more information on this topic please refer to the help resources menu within sales dock architect [Music]
